Giant Revolt Advanced Pro 0: The Fast, Versatile, and Intelligent Gravel Bike

Field Test and Review by Baroudeur Cycling of the Bike That Redefines Gravel Versatility

The Giant Revolt Advanced Pro 0 is one of those bikes capable of blurring all boundaries: gravel race, endurance bike, fast adventure machine… It can do it all, and above all, it does it remarkably well.

Designed to go fast on smooth terrain, stay stable when the surface deteriorates, and remain comfortable over long distances, the Revolt Advanced Pro 0 is aimed at cyclists who refuse compromises and want a single bike for all their riding styles.

At Baroudeur Cycling, we've ridden it, configured it, and adapted it on roads, gravel, and varied terrains during our trips in Portugal and France. Here's our complete analysis, straightforward and honest, based on several hundred kilometers in real conditions.

A Modern, Clean, and Decidedly High-End Design

Fully Integrated Internal Routing: Simplicity and Performance

The first element that immediately stands out: fully integrated internal routing with brake hoses running through the headset, just like on the high-end Giant TCR and Defy models.

No visible cables, no exposed housing. Everything runs cleanly through the stem and into the head tube.

The result:

  • A visually cleaner and more elegant bike
  • A fluid line that exudes premium quality
  • Better aerodynamic integration compared to the previous generation
  • A finish worthy of the best modern road bikes

This technical choice isn't purely aesthetic: it genuinely contributes to aerodynamic efficiency while facilitating maintenance thanks to optimized wheel stops that considerably simplify wheel installation.

Integrated Storage Compartment: The Detail That Changes Everything

The storage compartment located in the down tube, below the bottle cage, represents one of the most intelligent innovations of the Revolt Advanced Pro 0.

Careful construction:

  • Secure rotation-based locking system
  • Interior lined with anti-vibration foam
  • Neoprene bag included to prevent parasitic noise
  • Sufficient volume for repair essentials

Content recommended by Baroudeur:

  • 1-2 CO₂ cartridges
  • Emergency tubeless plugs
  • Lightweight tire levers
  • Quick link chain connector
  • Compact multi-tool

👉 Our pro tip: We systematically slip a 20€ bill in there. In case of a major flat, an impromptu café stop in the village, a lifesaving bakery after 80 kilometers, or an unexpected backup solution… this bill can literally save the ride. Simple, effective, field-tested.

Everything stays stored, silent, instantly accessible — without a bulky saddle bag or a backpack that makes your back sweat.

Reinforced Impact Protection

Giant has significantly improved frame protection compared to previous generations:

  • Under the down tube: Rigid molded plastic protector (previously a simple adhesive film)
  • Right rear chainstay: Protection against chain slap
  • Interior finish: Anti-resonance padding in the storage compartment

These details may seem minor, but they significantly extend the aesthetic and structural lifespan of the frame, particularly during intensive use on rocky paths.

The Flip-Chip: One Bike, Two Distinct Personalities

This is the true technical signature of the Revolt since its creation, now in its fourth generation.

How Does the System Work?

Each rear dropout integrates an eccentric flip-chip, adjustable with standard Allen tools. The manipulation takes less than five minutes with practice.

Procedure:

  1. Loosen the dropout fixing bolts
  2. Flip the eccentric piece (short position ↔ long position)
  3. Retighten to the appropriate torque

Nothing complex, nothing exotic. Any amateur mechanic can perform this modification.

Short Position: Agility and Responsiveness

Technical characteristics:

  • Reduced wheelbase (1041mm in size L)
  • Maximum tire clearance: 45mm
  • Fork rake: 65mm
  • Rear chainstays: 425mm

Resulting behavior:

  • More lively, agile, and nervous bike in direction changes
  • Increased responsiveness exiting corners
  • Better maneuverability on winding courses

👉 Ideal configuration for:

  • Mixed terrain: road + smooth flowing gravel
  • Fast and dynamic rides, gravel race style
  • Seeking optimal efficiency and explosive acceleration
  • Routes with numerous chained corners

Long Position: Stability and Capacity

Technical characteristics:

  • Wheelbase extended by +10mm (1051mm in size L)
  • Maximum tire clearance: 53mm (huge for gravel race)
  • Fork rake: 68mm (+3mm directional stability)
  • Rear chainstays: 435mm

Resulting behavior:

  • More stable, planted, and reassuring bike at high speed
  • Better absorption of terrain irregularities
  • Superior line-holding in fast technical descents

👉 Ideal configuration for:

  • Rough gravel and demanding rocky paths
  • Long fast descents requiring stability
  • Bikepacking with front/rear luggage
  • Technical climbs where rear traction takes priority over liveliness

In summary: You adapt the bike to your terrain and usage, not the other way around. This modularity represents a considerable advantage for cyclists practicing varied disciplines.

Frame and Fork: High-Quality Advanced Composite

Verified Technical Construction

Frame: Advanced-grade Composite

  • Stated weight: 990g in Medium size (confirmed by Giant)
  • Shaped tubes with optimized variable section
  • Oversized PowerCore bottom bracket (BB86 press-fit)
  • Asymmetric chainstays for drivetrain optimization
  • Ovalized seat tube with cutout for rear tire clearance

Fork: Advanced SL-grade Composite

  • High-quality carbon construction
  • Offset (rake): 50mm
  • Multiple mounting points for panniers and fenders
  • Optimized wheel clearance for wide tires

Total weight of tested bike: 8.34kg (size L, complete SRAM Force AXS configuration, with pedals, tubeless sealant, bottles)

This remarkably contained weight places the Revolt Advanced Pro 0 among the lightest gravel bikes on the market in this price range, while maintaining robustness and versatility.

Geometry: The Endurance-Performance DNA of the TCR

Giant maintains a geometry that remarkably combines great maneuverability with a relatively compact position, directly inspired by its legendary TCR.

Characteristic Angles (size L)

Head tube angle: 72° (steep for gravel)

  • Provides very lively and responsive steering
  • Facilitates tight maneuvers around obstacles
  • Maintains control and stability even at high speed

Seat tube angle: 73° (road/endurance style)

  • Efficient pedaling position with optimal power transfer
  • Maintains good front/rear weight balance

Detailed Measurements Short / Long Position (size L)

Baroudeur Interpretation:

The generous stack (616mm in L) places the handlebars relatively high, creating a comfortable position over long distances. Cyclists seeking a more aggressive position will appreciate the ability to easily remove spacers under the stem.

The moderate reach (397mm) maintains a balanced posture without excessive stretching, ideal for endurance.

This geometry places the Revolt at the fast and nervous end of the gravel spectrum rather than an extreme bikepacking-oriented gravel bike.

D-Fuse Seatpost: Long-Distance Comfort

The Revolt Advanced Pro 0 integrates Giant's D-Fuse SLR carbon seatpost, with its characteristic "D" profile.

Technical operation:

  • Thinned section below the clamp carriage
  • Flat rear profile allowing controlled vertical flex
  • Absorption of vibrations and small shocks without compromising lateral stiffness

On our long-distance rides (100km+ on mixed gravel), the D-Fuse demonstrated real effectiveness in reducing lower back fatigue and maintaining comfort even after several hours in the saddle.

Giant CXR 1 Wheels: Exceptional Lightness

Wheels Worthy of High-End Road Bikes

The Giant CXR 1 Carbon Disc Wheel System is one of the major strengths of this Revolt.

Giant stated weight: 1398g per pair (without tires)

BikeRadar measured weight (complete configuration):

  • Front wheel: 1330g (with 40mm tire, sealant, 160mm rotor)
  • Rear wheel: 1740g (with 40mm tire, sealant, 10-36 cassette, 160mm rotor)
  • Total: 3070g complete rolling configuration

Technical characteristics:

  • Hookless carbon rims
  • Internal width: 25mm (gravel optimized)
  • Profile: 35mm depth (aero/weight/stiffness compromise)
  • Hub: Giant with 54-point engagement DT Swiss mechanism
  • Spokes: optimized lateral stiffness configuration

Field behavior:

The lightness of these wheels literally transforms the bike's behavior:

  • Sharp and responsive accelerations
  • Explosive re-accelerations after tight corners
  • Exceptional sensation of liveliness
  • Excellent lateral stiffness during sprints and accelerations

The 54-point engagement freehub system (from DT Swiss) offers immediate responsiveness from the first pedal pressure — particularly appreciable in technical gravel where repeated re-accelerations are frequent.

Cadex GX 40mm Tires: Giant's New Standard

Giant now equips its Revolts with Cadex GX tires in 700×40c, tubeless ready, mounted tubeless from the factory.

Major evolution: These tires replace the old Giant models and offer:

  • Softer compound with better grip
  • Balanced intermediate tread for road/gravel
  • Spaced knobs allowing good efficiency on asphalt
  • Correct mud evacuation (except extreme prolonged conditions)
  • Supple casing absorbing irregularities well

Observed performance:

On rolling gravel and maintained paths, these tires excel with an excellent speed/grip compromise. On roads, they roll surprisingly well by simply increasing pressure by a few PSI.

Identified limitation: In thick and sticky mud conditions prolonged (after heavy October rains), the tread can saturate. For predominantly very muddy usage, tires with more widely spaced knobs would be preferable.

Baroudeur advice: Keep a quick inflation pump in your equipment. Going from 1.8 bar (gravel) to 2.5 bar (road) in a few seconds transforms the bike's behavior for paved sections.

On the Road: A True Fast Endurance Bike

At Baroudeur Cycling, we very frequently use the Revolt Advanced Pro 0 in road configuration during our mixed gravel/road trips in Portugal and Southern France.

The Simple and Effective Recipe

  1. We replace the gravel wheels with a pair of road wheels (19-21mm internal rims)
  2. We mount 28-30mm road tires
  3. We adjust pressures (2.8-3.2 bar depending on rider weight)
  4. We ride

The Result: Stunning

The Revolt Advanced Pro 0 transforms into a remarkably high-performing fast endurance bike:

Strengths:

  • Exceptional comfort thanks to D-Fuse and thin chainstays
  • Reassuring stability even at high speed (45-50 km/h descending)
  • Ability to maintain a sustained pace over long distances without excessive fatigue
  • Liveliness comparable to a true road bike thanks to contained weight
  • Balanced position allowing prolonged efforts

The only minor downside:

The 43/30 × 10-36 gearing, perfectly suited to gravel, can prove slightly limiting in very fast descents if you're looking to power hard beyond 55 km/h.

For intensive mixed gravel/road usage, a 46 or 48-tooth chainring could be considered, although this would compromise loaded mountain capabilities.

Beyond this marginal limitation: Exceptional combo. A single frame, two radically different uses, high performance in both disciplines.

Field Behavior: Real Versatility

Rolling Gravel: Favorite Playground

This is clearly the environment where the Revolt Advanced Pro 0 shines most intensely.

Observed characteristics:

  • Fast, fluid bike, easy to maintain at high speed (25-30 km/h)
  • Very appreciable sensation of lightness thanks to carbon wheels
  • Contained weight facilitating re-accelerations after each turn
  • Excellent efficiency on well-maintained white roads
  • Predictable and reassuring behavior even at sustained pace

On fast gravel courses, gravel race style (maintained forest trails, compacted agricultural tracks, fluid white roads), the Revolt provides sensations close to a road bike while perfectly absorbing terrain irregularities.

Rough Gravel and Technical Paths

With the right configuration (long position + 40-50mm tires with generous volume), the Revolt Advanced Pro 0 becomes very reassuring even when terrain significantly deteriorates.

Behavior:

  • Excellent directional stability in rocky sections
  • Effective shock absorption thanks to the frame/fork/seatpost assembly
  • Reassuring predictability in tight technical corners
  • Correct rear traction in steep rocky climbs

Realism: It obviously doesn't try to imitate a hardtail MTB on very committed singletrack. But it remains stable, predictable, and comfortable, even when terrain becomes frankly demanding with ruts, roots, and protruding stones.

For regular technical gravel, the Revolt X (more adventure-oriented version with adapted geometry) is the more natural choice. But the Revolt Advanced Pro 0 defends itself honorably and surprises with its capabilities beyond its initial "gravel race" positioning.

Long Distances: Where It Truly Excels

It's on long rides (100-150km, 5-8 hours in the saddle) that the Revolt Advanced Pro 0 fully reveals its potential.

Long-distance assets:

  • Vibration filtering: The D-Fuse seatpost + thin chainstays + carbon fork + D-Fuse handlebar assembly effectively absorbs high-frequency vibrations that generate muscle fatigue and discomfort
  • Balanced posture: Geometry allowing comfortable position maintenance without excessive back/shoulder/neck tension
  • Delayed fatigue: Overall comfort allows maintaining freshness and lucidity even after several hours
  • Energy efficiency: Rigid frame + optimal transmission = every watt produced transforms into forward progress

Design philosophy: A bike clearly designed to string together hours in the saddle with pleasure, not just to blast Strava segments for 3 minutes.

During our tests on 3-4 day bikepacking routes (front/rear panniers, long position, 45mm tires), the Revolt proved remarkably at ease, maintaining comfort and maneuverability despite additional load.

Who Is the Giant Revolt Advanced Pro 0 For?
